Basic grammar rules - verbs, nouns, adjectives

* verbs - the endings tell you what person does the activity

* nouns and adjectives - we group them according to their gender

feminine nouns usually end on -a (torba)
masculine nouns usually end on a consonant (dom)
neuter nouns end on -o or -e (oko)

feminine adjectives usually end on -a (duża)
masculine adjectives usually end on -y or -i (duży)
neuter adjectives end on -e (duże)

Based on that we can form sentences such as:
 
Ta torba jest duża. - This bag is large.
Ten dom jest duży. - This house is big.
To oko jest duże. - This eye is big.

Przymiotniki / Adjectives

In Polish ending of the adjective depends on gender.
masculine ends on -i / -y
feminine ends on -a
neuter ends on -e

examples:
Ta kobieta jest stara.
Ten samochód jest nowy.
Ten bilet jest drogi.
Ten kapelusz jest brzydki.
To okno jest duże.

Ending -i appears after sonsonants k and g like here: drog-i, brzydk-i
'tani' seems to be an exception

Silniejszy i mocniejszy



Gradation of adjectives:

silny – silniejszynajsilniejszy
strong – stronger – the strongest

mocny – mocniejszynajmocniejszy
powerful – more powerful – the most powerful

Remember!
stronger than =
silniejszy od (+ genetive)
silniejszy niż (+ nominative)

Jestem silniejszy od mojego brata.
Jestem silniejszy niż mój brat.

Vocabulary:
siła – strength
silniej – stronger (adverb)
moc – power
mocniej – more powerful (adverb)
przesąd – superstition
stereotyp – stereotype
wątroba – liver
mocne i słabe strony - strengths and weaknesses
jak na Polaka/mężczyznę/ojca przystało – as befits a Pole/a man/ a father

Jeden ze stereotypów o Polakach mówi, że dużo piją. Zapewne dlatego, że mają mocną wątrobę...
